Samsung has rolled out Dolby Atmos support for three new devices, which includes the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus smartphones and the Galaxy Tab S3.
Samsung has rolled out Dolby Atmos support for some more of its devices. As per a SamMobile report, the feature is now available for the recently unveiled Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus smartphones, along with the Galaxy Tab S3, which has received support for Dolby Atmos with the Android Oreo update that is now rolling out to the device. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus already come with Dolby Atmos support and counting the new additions, the feature is now available on a total of five Samsung devices. It should be noted that the new Samsung devices are not yet listed on Dolby’s official website under the list of supported Atmos devices. Users can enable and customise Dolby Atmos from the “Sound and vibration” settings on their devices under the “Sound quality and effects” menu. It’s good to see that Samsung has not reserved the feature only for its flagship devices and is rolling out to other phones as well, but it remains to be seen which Samsung smartphones will get the feature next.
Smartphones with dual speakers will be able to take better advantage of Dolby Atmos, but the effect will be more pronounced while using a pair of headphones. The Dolby Atmos audio format was initially introduced for home entertainment systems as it can control the sound on each speaker individually. This allows for particular sounds to be heard through certain speakers and not all of them. Instead of relying on the traditional concept of Audio Channels, Dolby Atmos relies on the concept of Audio Objects, so that certain sounds can be addressed to only specific areas of the room. As mentioned above, the Dolby Atmos audio effect will be available for the recently launched Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus smartphones. The smartphones were announced earlier this month and the company has equipped Super AMOLED displays on the two with an 18.5:9 display aspect ratio and a near bezel-less screen.
The Samsung Galaxy A6 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7870 chipset clocked at 1.6GHz and features an HD+ display (720×1480) with the new 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It comes in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants with an option of 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage respectively. On the rear, it sports a 16MP camera with a f/1.7 aperture. The front-facing camera has the same resolution, but a slightly smaller f/1.9 aperture. The device packs a 3000mAh battery, which supports fast charging.
The Samsung Galaxy A6+ features a 6.1-inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ display with a 1080x2220p resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 450 processor and same as the Galaxy A6, it comes in 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB RAM-storage variants. The primary camera features a 16MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture and a 5MP sensor with a f/1.9 aperture. On the front is a 24MP sensor with a f/1.9 aperture lens. There’s also a bigger, 3500mAh battery on the Galaxy A6+ and the rear fingerprint sensor is placed just under the camera lens. The two phones were launched in black, gold, blue, and lavender colour variants.
