Blackberry confirms that its new phone will feature a square 4.5-inch, 453ppi display
The company also announced the SDK for BB 10.3 and teased a 4.5-inch 1:1 display handset.
Canadian handset maker, Blackberry has confirmed that it will be releasing two new smartphones this year, a Blackberry Classic smartphone and a 4.5-inch high-resolution smartphone with a 1440×1440 pixels resolution.
Blackberry has also released an SDK for BlackBerry 10.3 beta for developers so that they can test the applications on the OS ahead of its launch. The SDK is also meant for the new device hardware being introduced later this year. The Blackberry SDK is available for download via BlackBerry's developer site.The company invited developers for testing the new features and improvements in the BlackBerry 10.3 SDK beta via a blog post. Blackberry stated that the SDK simulator (download) will show a square screen. It says that this is for 'a new device with a 1440×1440 resolution with a pixel density of 453 ppi,' which makes its a square smartphone with a diagonal length of 4.5 inches. The handset maker didn't share any more details of the device.
The blog post also mentioned that BlackBerry Classic smartphone will be arriving this year, and will run the latest BlackBerry 10.3.1 OS. The company also added that a different SDK will be released for developers to ensure their applications work with the 'toolbelt' hardware.
Tim Neil, director of Application Platform & Tools Product Management at BlackBerry, stated in the blog post, "I know, I know…you want more details on that new device, but we're not quite ready to give them yet, so hold tight and watch the blog for more information! In the meantime, testing with the 10.3 beta simulator will allow you to see how your application will behave in this new resolution and DPI combination, so we encourage you to check it out as soon as you can."
