Details of the device are not yet known but Asus CEO, Jerry Shen says that the phone will be called the ZenFone AR
After Lenovo, It seems like Asus will launch a Google Tango enabled smartphone. According to a report by DigiTimes, Asus CEO, Jerry Shen has confirmed that the phone will be called the ZenFone AR, and will be unveiled at CES 2017. Details about the device are not yet known but the report notes that the device will offer “advanced functionality and performance at a competitive price.”
The report also says that Asus plans on releasing its next generation ZenFone 4-series of smartphones in the second quarter of 2017. Further, the company’s robotic assistant, Zenbo, will be available in Taiwan by December, and in China in Q1 2017. It will be available in the US and other markets from Q2 2017. Shen also revealed that the company plans on launching an all-in-one VR device in Q3 2017.
Currently, the only smartphone to offer Google Tango is Lenovo’s Phab 2 Pro smartphone. With the Tango technology, the phone is able to sense depth through the use of an additional depth sensing camera. This helps the phone to map the surrounding areas and place virtual objects there. Lenovo has not launched the Phab 2 Pro in India, but did launch the Phab 2 Plus at Rs. 14.999. Unlike the Pro, the Plus does not feature Google’s Tango technology.
