HIGHLIGHTS

The information about the Asus ROG Phone 5 moniker comes from a Weibo post.

There is also reportedly a Tencent branded variant in the works.

Information about the Asus ROG Phone 5 recently popped up on Geekbench.

Asus is skipping the Asus ROG Phone 4 and will launch the Asus ROG Phone 5. This isn't the first time we have seen a brand drop the ‘4’ from its iterative product name. The same happened when OnePlus launched the OnePlus 5 after the OnePlus 3T skipping the ‘4’ entirely. This is because the number 4 is considered unlucky in some Asian countries. The information about the ROG Phone 5 comes from a Weibo post. The post goes on to reveal that there is a Tencent branded variant of the phone in the works as well, but it isnt clear if we will see this variant of the phone in markets outside China.

The Asus ROG Phone is tipped to launch in March and a Geekbench listing has highlighted some of the specifications of the device. A listing for the model number Asus_I005DA is live on Geekbench which is said to be the ROG Phone 5. The phone in the listing is powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor which is paired with 16GB RAM and is running on Android 11

Apart from this, the phone is said to come with a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel and 144Hz high refresh rate. The listing shows that the display will be AniMe dot matrix panel that first debuted on the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. With AniMe dot matrix, users can customize the screen to display any image or text message. For cameras, the Geekbench listing shows the phone will come with a triple-lens setup on the back. The lens set-up is reported to feature a 64MP primary lens.

The Geekbench listing shows that the phone comes with a dual 3,000mAh battery that totals to 6,000mAh of charge with support for 65W fast charging. You can check out everything we know about the Asus ROG Phone 5 here.
