Asus ROG Phone 5 Design and Display

The Asus ROG Phone 5 has not shed its old-school profile and has noticeable bezels on the top and bottom giving it a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Asus has previously said that the bezels make up for a convenient grip when playing on the phone in a landscape mode.

The ROG Phone 5 is not a thin and lightweight phone as it packs in some of the best hardware available on phones and is also compatible with 5G networks. ROG Phone 5 has not undergone stringent cosmetic changes to make it more in line with the current crop of smartphones. Instead, it builds upon the fundamentals that were put in place by the last generation.

Having said that, what’s a gaming smartphone without some bells and whistles. So this year, Asus decided to equip its flagship gaming smartphone with an AniMe Matrix display that we have previously seen on its laptops. It is essentially an RGB panel that can be personalized as per the user’s preference with different texts and images. The Air Triggers are still very much present as it is a fundamental aspect of the Asus ROG gaming smartphone that enhance the overall gaming experience.

The Asus ROG Phone 5 could feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution. The display is expected to support a 144Hz high refresh rate with HDR10+ certification and will likely be topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass.

Asus ROG Phone 5 Under the hood

Being a top-of-the-line gaming smartphone, the Asus ROG Phone 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor that has an octa-core CPU and Adreno 660 GPU. It will run on Android 11 based ROG UI out-of-the-box.

There are rumours that the ROG Phone 5 will be available in multiple RAM and storage variants starting from 12GB/16GB RAM and upto 512GB storage options to choose from. The phone was reportedly spotted on Geekbench with 18GB RAM and running Android 11 based custom UI.

As for the cameras, the ROG Phone 5 is confirmed to have triple cameras on the back headlined by a 64MP primary camera. The other two sensors are likely an ultra-wide-angle camera and a macro camera, however, there is no official confirmation on that yet.

Asus ROG Phone 5 Battery

A gaming smartphone demands unrestricted power supply and the ROG Phone 5 could be equipped with a 6,000mAh battery that should support 65W fast charging out-of-the-box along with support for reverse charging.
