Apple iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus pre-orders: Reliance Jio offering Rs 10,000 cashback and up to 70 percent buyback option

Reliance Jio will commence pre-orders for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus from September 22. The new iPhones will go on sale starting September 29 at a starting price of Rs 64,000.

The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus pre-orders in India start from September 22 and like last year, Reliance Jio is offering several plans to attract customers. The company will start pre-orders for iPhone 8 starting tomorrow at Reliance Digital stores, Jio Stores and the Jio.com website. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will start shipping in India from September 29 and will be available in 64GB and 256GB storage options.

The Apple iPhone 8 starts at Rs 64,000, while the iPhone 8 Plus starts at Rs 73,000. However, Jio is offering a cashback of Rs 10,000 to those pre-ordering iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus between September 22 and September 29. In order to get the cashback, customers need to make the purchase using a Citibank Credit Card. With the cashback, the effective price of the 64GB iPhone 8 drops to Rs 54,000, while the 256GB storage drops to Rs 67,000. The iPhone 8 Plus with 64GB and 256GB storage will effectively be available at Rs 63,000 and Rs 76,000 respectively.

Apart from the cashback, Jio is also offering 70 percent buyback on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Those buying the handset from Reliance Digital, Jio Store, Jio.com or the MyJio app are entitled to 70 percent cashback on the return of the handset after a year. Jio is also introducing an exclusive tariff plan with the launch of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Buyers of Apple's two new iPhones can opt for a new Rs 799 plan that offers 90GB 4G data, free voice calls and SMS along with a subscription to Jio apps. The Rs 799 plan comes with a validity of 28 days for prepaid users or one billing cycle for postpaid subscribers.

The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are the iterative updates to The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The design is similar to its predecessor, but uses metal and glass construction in order to support wireless charging. The iPhone 8 sports a 4.7-inch display, while iPhone 8 Plus gets a larger 5.5-inch Retina HD display. Both smartphones support for 3D Touch  and also feature the TrueTone display technology, which offers a wider colour gamut. Both models are powered by the new A11 Bionic chipset, which is also used on the iPhone X.

The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come with an upgraded camera setup. The iPhone 8 gets a 12MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation, while the iPhone 8 Plus get dual 12MP rear cameras with wide-angle and telephoto lens, as well as dual optical image stabilisation. With the iPhone 8 Plus, Apple is also introducing a new Portrait Lighting mode that offers different effects like natural light, studio light, contour light, stage light and stage light mono. The iPhones also support 4K video recording at 60fps and 1080p slow-motion videos at 240fps. It uses the same 7MP iSight camera with retina flash, and f/2.2 aperture lens which was also found on the previous generation iPhones.

Unlike the Apple iPhone X, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus feature a Touch ID sensor and also features smaller battery size than its predecessor. Apple, however, says that iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will offer a battery life similar to that of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Further, it supports Qi standard for wireless charging and fast charging via separate USB-C cable and power adapter. The new iPhones also miss out on the 3.5mm audio jack, but come bundled with the new EarPods with Lightning connector.
