Apple iPhone 4 production reportedly resumes for 3 markets including India
Apple is set to take on Samsung and other Android smartphone makers with its old but popular iPhone 4.
Apple recently re-introduced its iPhone 4 in the Indian market in an attempt to tap the mid-range smartphone segment, which is currently dominated by Android smartphones. And now a new report by Economic Times claims Apple has re-started production of its iPhone 4 just for India and Indonesia and Brazil markets.
According to the ET report, Apple aims to take on Samsung’s mid-range smartphones such as Grand and S4 mini and increase its market share – which it couldn’t due to lack of mid-range smartphones. The iPhone 4 had been one of the best selling Apple products in India due to its attractive price point. Read: Apple iPhone 4 Review
The report also points out that the new iPhone 4 stocks that have reached retail stores in the last 10 days had Dece 2013 as manufacturing date. New arrivals will be delivered to the trade partners by next week, bearing January 2014 manufacturing date. According to the report, first lot to hit the Indian shores will have about 50,000 – 60,000 units.
If the report is true, it will be the first time Apple has revived production of a discontinued phone. Traditionally, Apple stops selling older models after having launched new phones.
