The iPhone 17 series brings major improvements in design, display, camera, and performance. Starting with the standard iPhone 17, users finally get an upgraded selfie camera and a 120Hz display, two upgrades fans have been requesting for years. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feature a fresh new design, boosted performance with the new A19 Pro chip and improved telephoto lens.

Here’s a detailed look at what’s new.

iPhone 17 series vs iPhone 16 series: What’s new

iPhone Air: Instead of launching a Plus model, this time Apple has introduced a new model called iPhone Air. According to Apple, the iPhone Air is the most power-efficient iPhone ever made. The iPhone Air measures just 5.6mm in thickness and weighs around 165 grams, making it Apple’s slimmest and one of its lightest smartphones yet.

Design refresh: The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have received a major design overhaul. The latest Pro models have ditched last year’s titanium build for a new aluminium unibody design. Also, Apple has moved away from the familiar square camera bump and introduced a horizontal camera bar, which spans the entire width of the phone’s upper rear.

Better displays: While last year’s iPhone 16 only offered a 60Hz refresh rate on the base models, the iPhone 17 finally upgrades to 120Hz across the lineup. Also, the displays on the models are now brighter with 3000 nits of claimed peak brightness.

Performance boost: The iPhone 17 and the Air model are powered by the A19 chipset. On the other hand, the latest Pro models are backed by the A19 Pro chipset. Apple claims the iPhone 17 series has better battery life compared to the iPhone 16 lineup.
