Android adoption six times faster than iPhone: Mary Meeker
Google’s Android adoption is growing at least six times faster than Apple’s iPhone, according to KPCB analyst Mary Meeker.
While presenting a mid-year Internet Trends report at an event in San Francisco, Meeker touched on various trends such as the mobile growth, tablets usage and Android adoption.
The analyst further revealed the number of Internet-enabled Android devices shipped had gone past the number of Internet-enabled Windows devices in Q1 2012. That was when about 90 million units of Android devices shipped per quarter. Meeker expects shipping of about 160 million units of Android devices with 100 million Windows devices and 80 million iOS devices per quarter by 2013.
On the growth of the tablets, Meeker expects the global smartphone plus tablet install base will go past install base of the PC by the end of Q2 2013.
According to Meeker’s research, there are about 1 billion smartphone users, but 5 billion mobile phone users by 2012-end, highlighting the growing popularity of budget feature phones. Meeker in her May 2012 report had said there were 953 million smartphone subscriptions and 6.1 billion mobile phone subscriptions.
Another notable statistic Meeker provided is that the iPad adoption is growing five times faster the iPhone adoption – up from three times as reported in her May report.
