Airtel has just rolled out its VoWi-FI service across a number of regions
Places like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Mumbai and Kolkata will be receiving the service
The service was first launched in the Delhi NCR region
Airtel has just rolled out its VoWi-FI service across a number of states after the telecom giant first launched the service in the Delhi NCR region. As we reported earlier, the company first released the service in a select region as to test its capabilities and iron out the kinks before it went ahead and deployed the service to the rest of the country. Currently, Airtel has rolled out it’s Wi-Fi calling services in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Mumbai and Kolkata.
Avneet Singh Puri, CEO of Bharti Airtel for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana said in a statement that, “ Customer interest in VoWiFi capability is incredibly high and Airtel has been working hard to bring this feature, first to the consumers in the state of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana. The launch of VoWiFi calling is further validation of the importance of Wi-Fi to customers in the technologically advanced industry.”
You can also check if your phone is compatible with the service on Airtel’s official page.
Just a bit of a refresher, the service uses Wi-fi to allow voice calls and essentially retain the clarity and fidelity of a telecom network. This may, in turn, lead to different patterns of phone usage as it virtually costs almost nothing to use the internet as a phone service. The company is working with smartphone brands across the country to make sure their devices are compatible with the service. As of now, Airtel Wi-Fi calling is compatible with Airtel Xstream Fiber home broadband but will soon be able to function with all other broadband services and Wi-Fo hotspots.
