YouTube readying a music streaming service: Reports
YouTube may be soon offering a music streaming service in a bid to take on the likes of Pandora and Spotify.
YouTube is reportedly readying a music streaming service in order to take on other music streaming services online such as Spotify and Pandora. According to reports, YouTube music streaming service will be available as an ad-free subscription as well. Google hasn’t confirmed the reports yet.
YouTube’s rumoured streaming service will be associated with Google Play store, from where users can currently buy, store and can listen to their own tracks online. But Google will soon provide both services as a subscription plan to include more benefits.
A YouTube representative told CNET that “while we don’t comment on rumor or speculation, there are some content creators that think they would benefit from a subscription revenue stream in addition to ads, so we’re looking at that.”
YouTube is one of the most popular video and music sharing services in the world. But it is is free for users so far. However, reports suggest the video sharing platform will soon have paid channel subscriptions. Recently, Android Police spotted two lines of code that refer to paid channel subscriptions.
Google has also confirmed it is working on paid channel subscriptions. “We have nothing to announce at this time, but we’re looking into creating a subscription service that could bring even more great content to YouTube for our users to enjoy and provide our creators with another vehicle to generate revenue from their content, beyond the rental and ad-supported models we offer,” CNET quoted a YouTube spokesperson as saying.
YouTube will be taking on Spotify, which has more than 5 million paid subscribers across the globe. However, YouTube will be benefited by its 800 million visitors.
