WhatsApp Web could soon let users make group voice and video calls
Leaks suggest WhatsApp Web may support group voice and video calls with up to 32 participants.
Call links and scheduled call features are also said to be in development for the web version.
The features were spotted in a recent beta update and could roll out in a future update.
WhatsApp is constantly working on a variety of new features for the Web version. Now, the latest leaks suggest that the instant messaging platform is working on group voice and video calling, which is now under active development. Soon after the feature rolls out, the users will be able to place calls directly from the browser, eliminating the need to access their smartphones.
SurveyAccording to WaBetaInfo, this feature was found in the recent beta update. As per the report, the Meta-owned platform is working on its calling infrastructure on the web to support group chats, an area that was previously limited in scope. Previously, the company confirmed plans to bring calling to WhatsApp Web, but support for group calls was still in an early stage. Now the new leaks suggest that WhatsApp is now focused on making group voice and video calls fully functional on the web client, ensuring participants can join regardless of whether they are using a phone, desktop app, or browser.

The new feature is said to mirror the key aspects of mobile calling on WhatsApp. Group calls on the web may support up to 32 participants. However, the final limit has not been confirmed yet and may differ. There is also a chance that WhatsApp may begin with a select group before expanding the support over time.
Additionally, WhatsApp is also working on tools that can create links directly from group chats on the web. These links will allow users to invite others to join ongoing or upcoming voice or video calls with a single shareable URL, similar to what we get in the mobile apps.
Furthermore, the report also claims that the web version may also get scheduled calls. It will allow the users to plan voice or video calls in advance by setting a title, description and approximate starting and end time. Rather than automatically starting the call, the feature will create an event within the chat so participants know when a call is expected to begin.
Do note that these call-related features remain under wraps and are said to be released with the future update in the coming weeks.
