Twitter.com gets a revamped homepage
Twitter refreshes its home page to attract more users.
Twitter has announced launching a revamped homepage for signed-out or new users, in order to attract them and join the micro-blogging network. The new refreshed Twitter.com homepage has begun rolling out in the US, and will be launched globally "over time".
The company states that the revamped Twitter.com homepage is for users, who "still want to know what's happening" on the microblogging site without signing up. The revamped homepage welcomes users, and invites them to "see what's happening right now". Different categories for Sports, News, Entertainment, Technology, Lifestyle and more, divided further into subcategories are visible on the page. Clicking on any category will take users to a new log-in page, which shows popular tweets from these categories. Earlier, the homepage design for signed-out users just featured a slideshow with random tweets along with photos and asked users to sign up.
Twitter has been trying to engage new users for a while now. Earlier this year, Twitter had launched the 'While you were away' feature on Android, which shows a recap of some of the top Tweets that the users might have missed. According to reports Twitter is also testing a 'You may also like' discovery feature that shows five related tweets it thinks you might like. The company is still testing the feature and there's no word if it'll actually roll it out.
The company states in a blog post, "Starting today, when you go to the twitter.com homepage, you'll find interesting topics to explore like Politics, Pop Artists and even Cute Animals. Click on the topic and you'll see a timeline of Tweets from some of the most popular accounts in that topic. It's rich real-time content, just like the Twitter experience for users who log in… As with everything we build, we'll be making lots of improvements along the way so that Twitter's front page continues to be informative, entertaining and relevant to everyone. Stay tuned."
