TRAI asks broadband service providers to meet the Quality of Service benchmarks
HIGHLIGHTS

TRAI has released Quality of Service of Broadband Service (Amendment) Regulations, 2012 (28 of 2012)

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has tightened the noose around the broadband service providers and asked them to meet the Quality of Service benchmarks failing which they will be facing fines.

The regulator earlier this week released the “Quality of Service of Broadband Service (Amendment) Regulations, 2012 (28 of 2012)” on financial disincentives. TRAI in its release says the “purpose of the regulations is to prescribe financial disincentives on the service providers for failure to meet the prescribed Quality of Service benchmarks of Broadband service.”

“These regulations prescribe financial disincentive on Broadband Service providers for noncompliance with the benchmark at a rate not exceeding Rs. 50,000 per parameter for the first noncompliance and Rs. 100,000 per parameter for subsequent non-compliance of the benchmarks.”

The TRAI says the regulations also provide for deterrent as financial disincentives against false reporting and delay in submission of report of the Quality of Service benchmarks. Read the full TRAI release here.
