The idea behind the lunar hotel is to support the growing space economy by focusing on adventure tourism. The company wants to attract wealthy travellers, especially those who have already flown on commercial space missions, as well as first-time space tourists looking for a unique experience beyond Earth. Interested guests can already apply, but the cost is very high- a deposit of $1 million is required just to be considered.

Before any tourists arrive, GRU Space plans several test missions. In 2029, the company plans to send its first small payload to Moon using NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS). This mission will test inflatable living structures and a new way to turn lunar soil into solid bricks. These bricks would later be used to protect the hotel from  Moon’s harsh environment.

If the first test is successful, GRU Space plans a second mission with a larger structure. This version would be placed inside a lunar pit. The third mission, expected around 2032, would deploy the first working version of the Moon hotel. This initial hotel would be able to host up to four guests at a time.
