The interactive learning feature initially supports more than 70 core math and science concepts. When someone asks ChatGPT about one of these topics, the platform will now show a visual module alongside its explanation. Users can even adjust variables, manipulate formulas and see how those changes affect graphs and results.

‘Research suggests that visual, interaction based learning can lead to stronger conceptual understanding than traditional instruction for many students,’ OpenAI explained. ‘When learners can manipulate variables and instantly see the effects, they may be better able to internalize the relationships behind mathematical and scientific concepts.’

OpenAI says around 140 million people use the platform each week specifically to understand math and science concepts. Math remains a challenging subject for many learners. A survey has found that a large number of adults struggle with math, and many parents say they do not feel confident helping their children with the subject.

The new interactive learning feature is rolling out globally to all logged-in ChatGPT users. OpenAI says it plans to expand this experience to more subjects in the future. ‘This work builds on experiences like study mode, introduced last year to help students work through problems step by step, and quizzes, which help users strengthen recall and prepare for exams,’ the company explained.
