ROSS is an IBM Watson powered AI legal assistant who will handle bankruptcy law.
U.S. law firm Baker & Hostetler has employed ROSS, an AI robot, to manage their bankrupty practice. It calls its newest employee ‘the world’s first artificially intelligent attorney’. ROSS is built on IBM’s cognitive computing platform Watson. It is designed to read and understand language.
Its job is to respond to questions with cited answers. It analyses billions of documents and goes through entire readings on legislation, case law and secondary sources to come up with precise results. It also keeps a tab on the recent updates to the law to notify about new court decisions that might affect a particular case.
This robot will save lawyers and paralegals loads of time in searching for useful case records manually. This will speed up the process so that lawyers can take informed decisions and improves service to the client.
ROSS Intelligence, the company which created this robot attorney, claims that other law firms have reportedly signed licenses with ROSS. “BakerHostetler’s commitment to the future of the legal practice and ensuring they continue to deliver the highest level of value to their clients completely aligns with our vision at ROSS Intelligence,” said Andrew Arruda, the CEO and Co-Founder of ROSS Intelligence, in a statement to the press.
