No more long queues? NHAI rolls out Digital Local Pass and AI-powered MargMitra Help Centre on RajmargYatra app

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recently introduced two new digital services on the RajmargYatra mobile app. The commuters using the app can now apply for eligible local toll passes online and access FASTag-related support through MargMitra, which is an intelligent digital assistant integrated into the NHAI’s RajmargYatra mobile app. The new features will reduce the paperwork and trim the waiting time at toll plazas while providing faster access to highway services. Users living near the Mundka Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) are the first ones to benefit from the Digital Local Pass service. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, it will be expanded to more toll plazas across the country in the coming months.

With the newly launched Digital Local Pass, the people living within the 20 km distance from the toll plaza can now apply for a monthly local toll pass directly through the RajmargYatra app without visiting a toll plaza. The monthly pass allows the eligible users unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza during its validity.
Do note that at the time of writing the facility is currently available at the Mundka Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). NHAI said the service will gradually be extended to other toll plazas across India.
The online system replaces the earlier process that required commuters to visit toll plazas and submit documents in person. The functioning of the feature is simple: as to verify the eligibility of a user, the app seeks consent and then checks details through government platforms.
It then uses DigiLocker to verify the address details, while vehicle registration details are matched with the VAHAN database. Your linked FASTag is also being verified using a GIS-based system which also confirms whether the applicant lives within the required 20 km distance from the toll plaza or not.
MargMitra help centre for highway users
Alongside the digital pass, the NHAI has also launched the MargMitra Help Centre within the RajmargYatra app. It’s a one-stop solution for highway-related assistance. The app can understand 22 Indian languages, and a user can type or speak their questions in any of them. Moreover, the platform also provides information or directs users to the relevant service based on their request.
When facing issues with FASTag recharge, KYC requirements, refund status, annual pass services and local pass services, you can turn to MargMitra, as it offers support for all.

Aside from that, the users can also use the MargMitra feature to lodge complaints, which are later automatically sent to the concerned department for appropriate action. Not only that, but users can also track the progress of their complaints in real time and file an appeal if they are not satisfied with the response. The feature also lets commuters check FASTag blacklisting status, view pending e-notices and report road safety issues such as stalled vehicles or encroachments on national highways.
