Microsoft is adding two new features to Teams soon

Microsoft has spent much of 2025 trying to turn Teams into a faster and more dependable collaboration app, and the company is already mapping out what comes next. With the year almost wrapped, Microsoft has shifted its attention to early 2026, outlining a fresh set of upgrades that aim to fix long-standing annoyances and improve day-to-day productivity. The company has confirmed that speed improvements remain a top priority, but the real excitement lies in two new features that promise to streamline the way people type, switch between organisations and manage conversations across multiple workspaces. Both upgrades are now in active development, and Microsoft had said that users will start seeing them in the first quarter of next year.

Autocorrect finally arrives for Teams in January

For years, Teams users have been pointing out something almost ironic. Microsoft, a company known for building some of the best writing tools in the world, somehow left autocorrect out of its flagship communication app. That gap is finally closing. Microsoft has confirmed that native autocorrect support will arrive in Teams chat in January 2026 on both Windows and macOS. It will land first in preview before expanding to all users.

Once enabled, Teams will automatically fix commonly misspelled words while composing messages. It is a small change on paper, but for people who type quickly or shift between multiple conversations in a day, even minor corrections can save time and reduce friction. The feature is listed as ID 534487 on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, and it directly responds to one of the most common requests posted on the Feedback portal. Microsoft’s decision to prioritise it shows the company is paying closer attention to everyday usability instead of only focusing on large feature drops.

Cross-tenant notifications make multi-organisation work easier

The second major upgrade is aimed at a very different but equally important group- people who are part of multiple organisations inside Teams. At the moment, switching between tenants every time a new notification arrives can break focus and slow down workflows. Microsoft’s solution is a new cross-tenant notifications and messaging system coming in February 2026, listed as Feature ID 534490.

This addition will allow users to view and respond to activity across all their tenants without switching accounts. Notifications from different organisations will surface in one unified place, and users will even be able to pin specific tenants to the left rail for quicker access. Microsoft is rolling it out on PC first, with no confirmed timeline for other platforms.

The company notes that these dates may shift, as Roadmap timelines are always tentative. However, if everything stays on track, early 2026 could give Teams two of its most practical quality-of-life upgrades yet.
