The new service lets users send emails anonymously to anyone from their web browser.
Leak email service lets users send personal messages anonymously to individuals. Users don't even have to register, just go to the Leak website, enter the person’s email ID and choose whether you want to be identified as a friend, family member or co worker and just type and send.
Leak will send the email and not reveal your identity to the receiver other than how you chose to be described. However if you are on the receiving end of these emails and do not wish to receive any further mails via Leak, you can unlist your email ID. Leak also showcases the best mails on their website anonymously and users can even subscribe for “the best leaks of the week, delivered every Monday in your inbox.”
The website also mentions some well-intentioned 'Dos and Don'ts' guide right next to the send button that outlines your conduct on the site. Users are asked not to spam, and expose people's private information or harass.
Leak's creator, Laurent Desserrey stated that he wanted to create a "really positive and exciting tool". Users can (and probably will) send negative leaks, Desserrey added that it's "really not what the product is about. It's about saying the truth you're ashamed to say."
The service is similar to Secret which allows users to send messages anonymously. The company was recently valued at over $100 million. Another service called Whisper sends an astonishing six billion secrets each month. Whisper has recently received $36 million in fresh funding, raising a total of $60 million since it was founded in 2012.
