Govt. to finalise Aakash 4 specifications soon: Reports
The draft of the Aakash 4 specifications has already been prepared.
After the completion of the Aakash 2 project, the government has begun preparations for the next versions of the ultra low-cost tablet. According to an Economic Times report, specifications of the fourth version of the Aakash tablet are going to be finalised very soon.
“…the draft of the specifications has been prepared, formally it has to be placed before a committee… We are waiting for a suitable date to do that,” Department of Electronics and IT (DEITy) Secretary J Satyanarayana told PTI.
According to the official, the specs of the tablet will be designed on the basis of contemporary technological developments as well as ensuring the price of the tablet is not very high.
“We should not add so many features so that the cost will go beyond. Our interest is to finalise the technical specifications at this stage and notify these specifications…promote domestic manufacturers of such tablets so that electronics manufacturing is given a priority under the electronics policy,” Satyanarayana said.
When asked if any private player has shown interest in setting up a manufacturing faclity in the country for Aakash, he responded: “Not yet…but once we notify the specifications probably more proposals will come.”
DataWind, the company spearheading the first Aakash project, recently announced completion of shipments of the Aakash project. The company also showcased the UbiSlate 7C , its recommendation for the next Aakash tablet.
