Google has introduced its next generation AI model named ‘Gemini 1.5’.

Google unveiled its most capable model ‘Gemini 1.0 Ultra’ last week. Now, the tech giant has introduced its next generation AI model named ‘Gemini 1.5’. According to the company, the Gemini 1.5 model delivers “dramatically enhanced performance.”
“We’re ready to introduce the next generation: Gemini 1.5. It shows dramatic improvements across a number of dimensions and 1.5 Pro achieves comparable quality to 1.0 Ultra, while using less compute,” the tech giant announced in a blogpost on February 15th.

The first Gemini 1.5 model Google is releasing for early testing is Gemini 1.5 Pro. This mid-size multimodal model is specifically designed for efficient scaling across various tasks and boasts performance capabilities comparable to Google’s largest model to date, 1.0 Ultra.

“Our latest innovations in model architecture allow Gemini 1.5 to learn complex tasks more quickly and maintain quality, while being more efficient to train and serve,” Google explained.
Gemini 1.5 Pro can process large amounts of information in one go including 1 hour of video, 11 hours of audio, and codebases with over 30,000 lines of code or over 700,000 words.
When Google tested 1.5 Pro against 1.0 Pro using different types of content like text, code, images, audio and video, the company found that 1.5 Pro did better on 87 percent of the benchmarks used to build Google’s large language models (LLMs). When compared to 1.0 Ultra on the same benchmarks, it performs at a broadly similar level.
Gemini 1.5 Pro also shows impressive “in-context learning” skills, meaning that it can learn a new skill from information given in a long prompt, without needing additional fine-tuning.
“As 1.5 Pro’s long context window is the first of its kind among large-scale models, we’re continuously developing new evaluations and benchmarks for testing its novel capabilities,” the company explained.
