Google may follow Yahoo! and soon launch a new flatter, more colorful logo.

Ars Technica has spotted a new Google logo in Beta build of Chrome for Android. The new Google logo has a flatter look, doing away with the current 3D bezel look of the logo.

The Verge reports the new logo is aimed at simplified branding and meant for printed banners and letterheads. However, the new logo is already appearing to certain users when they log on to the home page of the website now. Users can also view the high resolution images of the branding even on Google’s servers, along with the current logo. The new logo apparently has a cleaner modern design with muted colors and all the beveling and shadows are gone.

Google spoke to The Verge and stated, “We are constantly running experiments on the look and functionality of search — this includes the logo.” No word has been given out about when the new logo will be rolled out globally.

Google’s new logo comes shortly after Yahoo rolled out a new logo after 18 years. Yahoo’s new logo has a sleeker and sans serif font with three-dimensional lettering. The logo, was custom-designed by CEO Marissa Mayer and a team of designers within Yahoo. Under Marissa Mayer, Yahoo has had a major changes and for the first time in two years Yahoo’s bouquet of services has got more unique visitors in U.S. than Google’s website.

A recent report of comScore’s Web Rankings states that Yahoo received 196.5 million visitors to take the top spot on the list followed by Google with 192.2 million, Microsoft was third with 179.6 million unique visitors followed by Facebook with 142.2 million and AOL with 117.3 million. US contributes to about 11.4% of the global internet usage in 2012.
