Google doodle celebrates jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald’s 96th birthday
During her six decades-long career, Ella Fitzgerald won 13 Grammys and worked with several greats of the time.
Google today honours legendary American Jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald on what would have been her 96th birth anniversary with a dedicated doodle on its home page. Also known as ‘the first lady of song’ and ‘the queen of jazz’, Ella Fitzgerald had an illustrious music career that spanned about six decades, and winning 13 Grammy Awards with over 40 million albums sold.
Ella Fitzgerald kicked off his singing career at the age of 17 and went on to record with other music legends such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Louis Armstrong. Fitzgerald was popular for repertoire including show tunes, jazz, bossa nova and opera. She, however, is best known for her popular Songbook series.
Her appearances on various popular US TV shows such as the Bing Crosby Show, the Frank Sinatra Show, the Nat King Cole Show, the Ed Sullivan Show, the Tonight Show helped increase her popularity.
