E-Aadhaar app to launch soon with QR verification: Here’s what we know

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to roll out a new QR code-enabled e-Aadhaar system across the country by the end of 2025. This new system aims to eliminate the need for individuals to carry or submit physical photocopies of their Aadhaar card for identification purposes. The upcoming digital Aadhaar upgrade will reportedly simplify the verification process, allowing Aadhaar holders to rely solely on digital QR scans for identity checks.

According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, nearly 2,000 of the 1 lakh Aadhaar authentication machines currently in use have already been upgraded to support the new system.

Alongside this development, UIDAI is set to release an updated Aadhaar mobile app that will allow users to modify most of their personal information – such as name, address, and date of birth, directly from their smartphones. This will also reduce the need for visits to physical enrolment centres.

E-Aadhaar app rollout timeline

Starting November 2025, individuals will only need to visit enrolment centres for biometric verification processes like fingerprint and iris scans. All other data changes will be done digitally through the app, making the process paperless and more accessible.

Apart from these, UIDAI will begin pulling user information directly from authenticated government databases. These include birth certificates, PAN cards, passports, driving licenses, ration cards under the PDS system, and MNREGA records. Additionally, electricity bill records are also likely to be integrated to simplify address verification further.
