Apple has officially announced new features that will be coming to the AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and AirPods Pro 2. These new features aim to help creators and everyday users by bringing studio-quality audio recording and a new remote camera control feature. The new features will be available as part of a free firmware update later this year with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26.
The company stated that the H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and Apple’s computational audio are all used in the new studio-quality audio recording feature to produce clear, high-fidelity sound. Voice Isolation will provide users with improved vocal clarity and more natural sound textures, even in noisy environments, whether they are conducting interviews, recording podcasts, or recording vocals while on the go. Additionally, FaceTime calls, regular phone calls and apps that use Apple’s CallKit framework will all benefit from the enhanced audio quality.
The company is also bringing a new camera remote feature that will allow users to control video recording with a simple press of AirPods stem. When your AirPods are paired with the camera app or compatible with third-party camera apps, on iPhone or iPad, a press-and-hold gesture on the AirPods can start or stop video capture. As per the company, this will help the users to make self-shooting easier, specifically for vloggers and creators, who want to perform while recording without the need to touch the device.
The company added that these updates will be compatible with all Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and will support native applications such as Voice Memos and Messages, as well as third-party platforms such as Webex and other tools.
According to Apple’s press release, developers can begin testing the new feature today via the Apple Developer Program. The public beta will be available next month through Apple’s Beta Software Program. The final version is expected to be released this autumn. However, availability can vary by region and language.
