A new Android Canary build that was released today includes the first signs of this integration. The feature seems to allow users to move their data during the initial setup of a new Android or iPhone device, eliminating the need to download Apple’s Move to iOS application or Google’s Android Switch tool. Apple is also said to introduce support for the feature in the upcoming iOS 26 beta update.
The updated migration workflow is said to support more data categories than what is currently possible, addressing long-standing user complaints about incomplete transfers. Both companies have also been navigating global regulatory scrutiny over platform lock-in, and an easier switching experience is said to ease some of the pressure.
It must be noted that the feature is currently live only in the Android Canary version 2512 (ZP11.251121.010) on Pixel devices. The Android maker said that the functionality will eventually move to the Android Beta channel before becoming widely available to all Android users. The report also stated that Apple will also bring the update to beta anytime soon.
It must be noted that the company has not confirmed the rollout timeline for the final version and the company has indicated that Android support could vary by device. It would be too soon to talk about the new system, and till then, it is advised that you stick to the current data transfer process.
