AMD unveils Ryzen 9 9950X3D II with Dual 3D V-Cache

AMD just launched a new processor out of the blue in the form of the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D II Dual Edition. AMD describes this as the world’s first desktop processor with 3D V-Cache on both the CCD chiplets on the package. Essentially, this new chip carries 208 MB of total on-chip cache memory after you factor in the 16 MB of L2 cache. The typical benefits of having a large cache pool are there, so there’s more memory closer to the cores and they’ve had to bump up the TDP ceiling to 200 W to accommodate the more thermally expensive cache storage. In all other aspects, the core configuration is very much the same as the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. AMD says that the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D II Dual Edition should deliver about 5-to-10 per cent more performance over the predecessor. Pricing details have not been confirmed but the processor is expected to be available for purchase starting 22 April, 2026.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D II Dual Edition Specifications

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 or 9950X3D II sports a similar AMD Zen 5 based 16-Core / 32-Thread configuration as the 9950X3D with a slightly reduced maximum boost clock of 5.6 GHz. This is usually done to compensate for the higher heat output from the added cache memory. Although, AMD has increased the TDP ceiling by 30 W to 200 W so folks building PCs around the 9950X3D II will need slightly better cooling solutions. Although, if you’re currently running a 150-180 W cooler, then it likely has the headroom to handle the additional heat from the 9950X3D2.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D II Desktop Processor Performance

The processor was announced by Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group, via a video with claims that the new 9950X3D II Dual Edition offering improved performance in gaming and productivity tasks. While the video didn’t have absolute benchmark numbers, we did spot the processor in the wild before CES this year. It had appeared on Geekbench with 3553 in Single Core performance and 24340 in Multi-Core performance figures. That’s an improvement of close to 160 points in single-core and more than 2000 points in multi-core performance. However, a single benchmark is rarely indicative of a processor’s true performance and we’ll have to wait for the review to know more.

Availability and Pricing

Like we mentioned earlier, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D II Dual Edition is expected to launch on 22 April, 2026 but we’re still in the dark about the pricing. With claims of 5-10 per cent additional performance over the 9950X3D which retails at USD 699, we might see the 9950X3D II sell for approximately USD 750-800.
