Fans of the PlayStation gaming console in India finally have a reason to celebrate. Sony India has revealed the pricing for the upcoming PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition gaming consoles. The PlayStation 5 will retail for Rs 49,990 while the digital edition of the console, which doesn’t have a optical disc drive will retail for Rs 39,990. The company has not yet revealed the date on which the consoles will be going on sale in India though. The console segment is once again back in the limelight for offering immense value for money. Here’s how the upcoming PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series consoles square up against one another.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series Variants

Both Sony and Microsoft are launching two variants of their next generation consoles, but their approaches to them are quite different. Sony has the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, the difference between the two just being the lack of an optical disc drive in the latter. Microsoft is launching the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S, with the former being a 4K gaming beast while the latter best suited for 1440p, high refresh rate gaming.

Sony layStation 5 is priced at Rs 49,990 and Rs 39,990 for the digital edition.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series Build and Design

We are also seeing a rather stark departure from previously established design language for gaming consoles with the new generation. Sony’s PlayStation 5 appears to be a rather large, while console with a rather futuristic looking design. In Sony’s official teardown video, we see the level of attention to detail Sony has paid to ensuring that the PS5 can be placed in both vertical and horizontal orientations. On Microsoft’s side of things, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have completely different designs. While the Series S looks like a Lumia 1020 smartphone, with a white body and a circular black panel (akin to the camera module on the smartphone). The Series X is just a rectangular black tower with cleverly disguised vents to allow users to place the console in both vertical and horizontal orientations. It is nice to see that with the upcoming generation of consoles, both Sony and Microsoft have ensured that the consoles can be placed in either orientation, without the need for add-ons.

Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S will be available starting November 10 for Rs 49,990 and Rs 39,990 respectively.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series Price and availability

Microsoft had unveiled the price of their Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles in India a few weeks ago. Xbox Series X is going to retail for Rs 49,990 while the Series S will retail for Rs 34,990. Interestingly, right after the price announcement, the Xbox Series S went on pre-order for a deal price of Rs 29,990, and was sold out within minutes. Additionally, there were reports of a surge in the sale of the Xbox One X, as people confused it with the Series X. Microsoft’s consoles will be available in India starting November 10. Sony has announced the price of the PlayStation 5 is set at Rs 49,990 while the digital edition of the console will retail for Rs 39,990. As of now, the company has not announced a date of availability. The consoles being released by both microsoft and Sony put high refresh rate performance at the very foreffront, while also focussing on high resolution. A console for Rs 49,990 that can do 4K, 120Hz cannot be matched by any PC in that, or even a slightly higher price bracket. Console fanboys truly ave something to rejoiec about!
