Red Dead Online Beta launches today

Red Dead Online Beta launches today
HIGHLIGHTS

If you are one that purchased the Ultimate Edition of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption, then you can start playing the beta for Red Dead Redemption Online today. The rest of you will have to wait a bit.

Now that you’ve had some time to take in the tale of Red Dead Redemption (almost a month), it is time to jump back into the wild wild west with your friends in Red Dead Online. Early access to the Red Dead Online beta begins tomorrow on Tuesday, November 27, working up to full public access on Friday, November 30. If you have played the classic multiplayer of the original Red Dead online, then you will feel right at home. According to Rockstar, “Red Dead Online blends the classic multiplayer of the original Red Dead Redemption with the best of everything we have learned since then about creating deep multiplayer experiences. The result is something completely new and fun, and an experience that will continue to expand and evolve over time.”

Red Dead Online takes the foundation of Red Dead Redemption 2’s gameplay to give you a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players. “Create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience,” read Rockstar's media release.

In Red Dead online, you have the option to explore the world solo or with friends. “Form or join a Posse to ride with up to seven players; gather around the fire at your Camp; head out hunting or fishing; visit bustling towns; battle enemy gangs and attack their hideouts; hunt for treasure; take on missions and interact with familiar characters from across the five states; or fight against other outlaws in both spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles; compete with other players or whole Posses in open world challenges and much more,” the release notes. It looks like Red Dead Online is looking to expand upon the living, breathing world created in the single player campaign. This is quite like what we saw with GTA V’s online mode.

Early access for the Red Dead Online Beta starts on Tuesday, November 27 at 8:30am EST which is 7PM November, 27 India time. Full access beginning on Friday, November 30. This is to ensure that the servers can handle a growing volume of concurrent players in the early hours and first days of the Beta. This will also help reduce any server crashes during the launch week. Tonight, those that ordered the Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition (read our review here) will get access to the beta. If you have a physical copy of the Ultimate Edition, you must redeem the Ultimate Edition code to be eligible.

On Wednesday, November 28, all those who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26 according to Rockstar’s data will get access to the beta. On Thursday, all those that played the game between October 26 to October 29, according to Rockstar’s data, will get access to the beta. Lastly, on Friday, November 30, all players who own Red Dead Redemption 2 will get access. The Red Dead Online Beta will be available to anyone who owns Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One starting Friday, November 30. When booting up Red Dead Redemption 2 and arriving to the title menu, you will see an option in the top right of the screen to select Online.
