Fresh PS6 leaks surface
According to a Beebom report, Sony is said to be working behind the scenes to create a future that is highly centered on cloud gaming through the PlayStation 6. The upcoming console is expected to come with improved back-end and fast storage which could offer a much better cloud gaming experience. Simultaneously, leaks also suggest that the console will still support current PS5 games, and development for cross-generation assets has already started.
Rumors also point towards an increased role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which may come in the form of machine learning upscaling and neural texture compression to lessen file sizes without reducing the quality. In addition to this, a third-person horror game that has been built using Unreal Engine 5 is also rumored to be in development as an early title that showcases the capabilities of the next-generation console.
What is expected from the PS6
While Sony has not made any official confirmation on the PS6 yet, leaked information and reports from industry professionals strongly indicate that this will be quite a different PlayStation generation. A significant part of the conversation centers on when the console might be released, with initial expectations pointing to 2027, though this may have shifted towards later in 2028 or 2029, largely because of an ongoing shortage in memory and escalating component costs. Global demand for high-bandwidth memory is also contributing significantly to the delay because it’s heavily used for AI data centers.
With the increasing costs, it is also expected that Sony may adopt a multi-tiered structure for the PS6 range. The possibilities may include a cheaper ‘Lite’ model, a main ‘Pro’ version, and even a portable device that complements the main console.
In terms of hardware, Sony might continue its collaboration with AMD for the PS6, and this will likely include a new architecture focused on efficiency and AI performance rather than simply raw power. This could lead to enhanced ray tracing capabilities, faster memory, and better thermal management compared to previous generations.
