LG Electronics has announced the UltraFine evo 6K (model 32U990A), which is claimed to be the world’s first 6K monitor with Thunderbolt 5 support. LG is aiming it at professional creators who need both ultra-high resolution and high-speed data throughput for editing and design work. The extra resolution gives more detail and workspace. While there are monitors like Apple’s Pro Display XDR with 6K panels in the market, the new LG monitor combines the benefits of 6K with Thunderbolt 5, the latest connectivity standard promising faster transfer speeds and flexible multi-device setups. LG has not yet disclosed pricing for the UltraFine evo 6K. The monitor first goes on sale in late September in South Korea and Japan, followed by a wider global rollout in October across the US and Europe. The Indian availability isn’t revealed. Pricing will determine how it stacks against rivals like Apple’s Pro Display XDR and Dell’s UltraSharp 6K.

Specifications and features

The LG monitor displays a 32-inch 6K (6,144 x 3,456) HiDPI panel with 224 PPI pixel density, 98% DCI-P3 and 99.5% Adobe RGB coverage. It is VESA DisplayHDR 600 certified and factory-calibrated for macOS. You get features like Studio Mode (colour presets for Mac). LG assures seamless Mac and Windows compatibility.

In real-world terms, the 6K panel provides 2.56 times more pixels than a standard 4K UHD display, improving text clarity and detail precision for editing tasks. Daisy-chaining two units nearly multiplies usable workspace fivefold compared to a single 4K monitor, something that video editors and visual designers will value.

The Thunderbolt 5 support can deliver up to 120Gbps unidirectional bandwidth, triple the data transfer speeds of Thunderbolt 4 (40Gbps) and simplify daisy-chain setups. It also offers real-time 4K rendering and rapid transfer of 8K RAW files.

Other connectivity options include USB-C, a multi-port hub, and a built-in KVM switch.

Design-wise, the monitor has slim borders on all four sides and offers tilt and pivot adjustments for convenient prop-up. The design also supports casual vertical workflows such as social video editing for YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
