WhatsApp gets major group chat upgrade with all mentions, smarter polls and more

WhatsApp has announced a new set of updates to make group conversations more organised and easier to manage. The Meta-owned social media platform has now introduced enhanced poll options, an @all mention feature to notify every participant at once, and a quicker way to create new chats using members from an existing group. The features are gradually rolling out to users. Here are the new features.
SurveyWhatsApp polls get more control
WhatsApp is adding new tools to its poll feature. Users can now set an expiry time for polls, allowing voting to automatically close after a chosen deadline. This can be useful for time sensitive decisions such as scheduling meetings or confirming event plans.
The platform is also introducing an option to hide the identities of people who voted, giving participants more privacy while sharing their options. In addition, poll creators will be able to edit the poll question within 15 minutes of publishing it in case they need to fix errors or clarify wordings.

@all mentions and easier subgroup chats
Taking to the blog post, Meta also introduced @all mention that allows users to notify everyone in a group with a single tag instead of mentioning members individually. WhatsApp says the feature is intended for important announcements such as schedule changes, office updates, or school notifications. For groups with more than 32 members, only administrators will be able to use @all.
Last but not least, the company also introduced the ability to create a new group chat directly from an existing one. Instead of manually adding participants again, users can quickly start a separate conversation with members from the current group. The feature is designed for situations where smaller discussions are needed without interrupting the main group chat.
