India is seeing a sharp rise in digital fraud as more people rely on online banking, payments, shopping and other digital services. Amid this growing threat, Airtel says its network-based security system has identified more than 98.4 billion spam calls and 4.4 billion spam messages over the past two years. According to the company, they have blocked more than 1.62 million malicious links. Apart from that, the telecom company has also introduced its Safe Network service with the help of its AI in 2024 for detecting spam and suspicious activities at the network level. The Airtel Spam Detection Network was rolled out in September 2024. From there on, the Airtel Safe Network program was expanded to address new kinds of cyber threats.
The system uses network intelligence and AI to detect suspicious activity. It works in the background and protects users without requiring any manual action. Not only that, but the Safe Network now also includes spam call and message detection, malicious link detection, OTP fraud protection and business name display.

Airtel OTP fraud protection
The telecom giant has introduced AI-based protection to help prevent OTP frauds. The tool comes in handy in situations where users could be tricked into sharing OTPs or other sensitive information. The working of the tool is simple. It searches for any suspicious activities and can take action if it identifies any potential threat from a fraudster using an OTP scam.
Digital fraud protection
Airtel’s Safe Network also includes protection against malicious links. According to the company’s data, they have blocked more than 1.62 million malicious links since the feature was introduced. These links were shared through SMS, messaging apps, emails and browser redirects.
As per the telecom giant, the system works in real time and is available to its mobile and Wi-Fi broadband subscribers. Not only that, but to enhance the feature, the company has also introduced a business name display to help users identify verified enterprise calls and distinguish them from potentially fake numbers.
