Telegram has returned to Apple’s App Store after briefly disappearing for users in several countries. Many iPhone and iPad users reported that they were not able to find the messaging app through App Store searches. Neither Apple nor Telegram commented while the app was unavailable. Telegram has now confirmed that the app has been restored to the App Store. While the company has not explained why it briefly disappeared, Apple has revealed the reason behind the temporary removal. Telegram has confirmed to Reuters that the app has returned to Apple’s App Store. “Telegram has been restored on the App Store and should soon be available again for all users,” the company said. Telegram did not provide any additional information about why the app disappeared or what led to its return.
After returning on App Store, Telegram posted on X, “Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated.”

Apple explained the reason behind the temporary removal
In a statement to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple revealed the reason which led to the removal of Telegram. “We briefly removed Telegram from the App Store after our review found content that violates our strict guidelines prohibiting child sexual abuse material. The app was subsequently restored after the developer promptly removed the content and banned the user who posted it,” Apple said.
Well, this is not the first time Telegram has removed from the App Store. In 2018, Apple temporarily removed the app after finding what it described as inappropriate content. Telegram later added extra protections before the app was allowed back.

The messaging platform has also faced restrictions in different countries over the years. In 2023, Brazil temporarily banned Telegram after the company did not provide information related to groups accused of promoting violence in schools.
In 2024, Apple removed Telegram from the App Store in China after receiving an order from the country’s internet regulator. The app remains unavailable there. More recently, Telegram was also temporarily banned in India after cheating rackets reportedly used the platform to target candidates appearing for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination.
