Apple is reportedly planning to turn its future smart glasses and headsets into devices that do much more than entertainment. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company wants these products to become useful tools for health, fitness and overall well-being. Apple had similar plans while developing the Vision Pro headset, but the idea never reached users. Keep reading for all the details.
SurveyAccording to the report, Apple originally wanted to bring a special version of Apple Fitness+ to the Vision Pro headset. Users would wear the headset during workouts and following classes. At the same time, the headset’s body-tracking technology would study their movements and provide useful feedback. However, the feature never launched. The report says Apple faced technical challenges, and the Vision Pro headset was also considered too heavy.

Apple has now shifted its attention to smart glasses. The company reportedly believes the form factor could make health and fitness features more practical. The report compares this approach to AirPods.
Future Apple smart glasses are expected to include different sensors that can collect information and track how users move. This could allow Apple to introduce health and fitness experiences. However, Gurman says these features are unlikely to be part of the first-generation glasses expected next year.

The report also points to a new Apple job listing as another sign of the company’s plans. Apple’s Vision Products Group, which is responsible for developing future glasses and headsets, is hiring a “strategic product design leader.”
The job description says the person will help “define the future of health, well-being and fitness experiences across vision products.” Apple also says the role involves “translate ambiguous opportunities at the intersection of spatial computing, wearables, consumer health and human behavior” into a clear product direction. In addition, the person should have “experience developing and validating digital health or fitness products” and “familiarity with sensor-driven experiences.”
According to the report, these plans show that Apple wants its future smart glasses to join the Apple Watch and AirPods as health-focused devices.
