Meta Subscription: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp users will now have to pay to use all features

Meta has officially introduced a new range of paid subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp as the company expands its push towards premium social media and AI experiences. The announcement was made by Meta’s Head of Product Naomi Gleit through a video shared on Instagram, where she explained that the new plans are designed to help users connect, create and personalise their experience across Meta’s apps. Reports suggest that the subscriptions will include creator-focused tools, profile customisation options and deeper audience insights. Alongside social media subscriptions, Meta has also launched paid plans for its Meta AI platform, offering higher usage limits and advanced AI features for users who rely heavily on AI tools and content creation.

Naomi Gleit, Meta’s Head of Product, shared a video on Instagram where she announced the new subscription plans by Meta. In the video she explained that with these subscription plans the tech giants want to give users richer ways to connect, create and personalise their experience across Meta’s apps.
The Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus plans are expected to cost $3.99 per month, which roughly converts to around Rs385 in India. While the WhatsApp Plus may cost $2.99 monthly, which is approximately Rs 290. However, do note that Meta is yet to officially confirm the India pricing.
Reports also suggest that the premium social media plans will include advanced analytics, audience reach tools, profile customisation options and story rewatch insights. These features are mainly expected to attract creators, influencers and users looking for more visibility on the platforms.

WhatsApp Plus may focus on personalisation

With the introduction of WhatsApp Plus, the company is reportedly focusing more on personalisation features. Furthermore, the users may also get premium stickers, custom themes and personalised ringtones to make the app experience feel more unique.
Not only that, but the company is also expected to introduce more premium tools for creators and businesses in the near future as Meta is planning to gradually expand its subscription offerings across platforms.

Meta AI subscriptions were also announced
Meta has also introduced paid plans for its Meta AI chatbot platform alongside its social media subscriptions. The Meta One Plus AI plan will cost $7.99 per month, around Rs 775, and is designed for users who regularly create AI images or videos or use reasoning tools.
A more advanced Meta One Premium plan priced at $19.99, roughly Rs 1,940, will offer higher usage limits and expanded AI capabilities. Meta says free access to Meta AI will remain available, but users may face limits after heavy usage unless they subscribe. The company has not revealed the exact limits yet.
