Instagram has announced new upgrades to protect users from abuse
HIGHLIGHTS

Instagram will introduce some new updates to protect its community from abuse.

The new features will offer a better blocking system, Hidden Words update, and nudge the commenters to be respectful.

Instagram will start rolling out the update in the upcoming weeks.

Instagram will introduce three new security features to protect its community from abuse and offensive language. First, Instagram will allow a better blocking feature for the users. Once you block an account, Instagram will not allow the user to interact with you even from their different accounts because it will automatically block any future accounts created by the user.

Users with more than 10,000 followers will access the Hidden Words feature, which provides a powerful tool for automatically filtering harmful content from comments and message requests. Instagram will automatically enable this feature for creator accounts, and they can create a custom list of words, phrases, and emojis to hide. In addition, this feature supports languages like Farsi, Turkish, Russian, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil.

Three new updates for the Instagram Community

Instagram has also added nudges to make people rethink before posting hurtful comments or message requests. For example, a new notification will encourage people to pause before responding to a comment the systems believe is offensive. These nudges are now available for apps in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Chinese, or Arabic.

Instagram's blog post mentions, "Now, when you block someone, you'll have the option to block other accounts they may already have, making it more difficult for them to interact with you again on Instagram. To help protect more creators from harmful message requests and comments, we'll test automatically turning on Hidden Words for people who use a Creator Account. We've also made improvements to Hidden Words to protect people from seeing scammy message requests or offensive Stories replies, among other things. We're expanding our use of nudges to encourage more people to pause and reflect before they say something that could be hurtful in comments or message requests.
