Google launches Camera Go app as Android Go devices pass the 100 million mark
HIGHLIGHTS

Google says that Android Go devices have crossed the 100 million mark.

The company has released the Google Camera Go app.

Google says that the Camera Go will be available on the Nokia 1.3 and more Android (Go edition) devices soon.

Google says that Android Go devices have crossed the 100 million mark. According to Google, “There are more than 3.5 billion people who use smartphones, but that’s only 45 percent of the world’s population. We created Android (Go edition) to bring more affordable, high-quality smartphones to people around the world. Thanks to our partners who have made more than 1,600 device models available in 180+ countries, there are now more than 100 million active Android (Go edition) devices around the world. Here are some updates on Go edition’s progress and where we’re going next.” Android Go is aimed to run on low-end hardware giving people looking for a budget smartphone a smooth Android experience.

Looking to improve the performance of these low-end devices, Google has also announced the Camera Go app. According to Google, since the launch of Android Go, one of the most requested features was an improvement to the camera app. The new Camera Go app aims to help people click photos without worrying about speed or storage. It sports a Portrait Mode to give photos a bokeh effect. We have seen Google achieve this with a single camera when they launched the Pixel 3 and it is nice to see the technique trickle down to the Android Go family of smartphones. How well it will work is something we will tell you when we get a device in for review.

The Camera Go app is built for people using smartphones for the first time. Because of this, it brings with it a clean and simple interface. According to Google, “Camera Go tracks how much photo and video storage space you have left, and then it helps you clear up space so you never miss a shot”. This is an essential feature as budget smartphones like the Android Go devices come with limited storage that can fill up pretty fast.

Google says that the Camera Go will be available on the Nokia 1.3 and more Android (Go edition) devices soon. Speaking of the Nokia 1.3, it is an Android Go device sporting the Camera Go app. Coming to other specifications of the smartphone, the Nokia 1.3 features a  5.71-inch display with a notch. It sports a 19:9 aspect ratio with a 1570 x 720 pixel resolution. The company claims its brightness can go up to 400 nits. Under the hood, it is powered by the Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform. It has 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB of e-MMC 5.1 storage. The storage is expandable via a microSD card up to 400GB. The phone is a single SIM device.

Moving to the optics, it has an 8MP camera at the back with an LED flash. On the front, there is a 5MP selfie shooter. The Google Go camera app on the device brings features like AI low light enhancement, HDR and Portrait. A 3000mAh battery with support for 5W charging powers the entire package. The smartphone is available in Cyan, Charcoal, and Sand colors. You can read more about the Nokia 8.3 5G, Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 1.3 here.
