The company also updated its Pixel Buds Help page and attached a link through which people can find what languages are covered under the translation feature.
Recently, Google added 13 new languages, including Hindi, Bengali and Punjabi, that its service Google Translate can now read and translate into other languages that user understand. The company has now announced that it has enabled the real-time translation of 40 languages, including Hindi and Bengali, on all Assistant-supported headsets and phones. Previously, the real-time translation feature was only supported on Google's Pixel Buds — AI powered earphones that Google launched last year with the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2XL smartphones.
The Google Pixel Buds Help page for real-time translation has been updated from “The Google Assistant on Google Pixel Buds is only available on Android and requires an Assistant-optimized Android device and data connection” to “Google Translate is available on all Assistant-optimized headphones and Android phones.” The company also gave a link listing all the languages that the service can translate on Google Pixel, Pixel 2, or Pixel 3 phones through the Pixel Buds.
Last year, Google launched the Pixel Buds with the Google Assistant built into them. The earphones are tethered together with a wire and connect to the new Pixel phones using Bluetooth. The right bud on the Pixel Buds is touch sensitive and can be used to bring up the Google Assistant. Pixel Buds are not available in India, but with Pixel 3 devices, the company is giving wired Type C Pixel earphones that work like the Bluetooth ones. There is a black button on the wire to summon the Google Assistant and then a user can speak “Help me interpret <supported language>” to hear real-time translations.
To visually translate a language that you don’t understand, you first need to download the Google Translate app in your Android or iOS smartphone. Once done, simply open the app and choose the camera icon, align the text in the given area on the screen and then select text that needs to be translated. The app will analyse and carry out the translation in real-time. You also have an option to download a language pack to carry out offline translation.
