Facebook is planning a major update for the Messenger app for Android that will introduce SMS integration and multiple account support. The features are reportedly being tested on a number of Facebook Messenger apps by Android users. A company spokesperson told TechCrunch, “At Messenger we are always trying to create new ways for people to communicate seamlessly with everyone. Right now, we’re testing the ability for people to easily bring all their conversations – from SMS and Messenger – to one place. It’s a really simple way to get, see and respond to all your SMS messages in just one app. By choosing to access your SMS messages in Messenger, they’re right alongside all the other enhanced features that Messenger offers.”

Facebook has also confirmed that it is working to integrate multiple accounts into Messenger. Users will get an option under Settings called ‘Accounts’ that will let them add or remove accounts from the app. These will be password-protected, so that only those who are authorised can read messages, while others will just see a notification. A few days ago, another service owned by Facebook, Instagram, added multiple account login and switching to its app on Android and iOS.
