Facebook Messenger gets its first game

Facebook has launched its first game on Messenger platform app list called “Doodle Draw Game”. The game is available for both Android and iOS platforms.

The Doodle Draw game suggests users things that they can draw, which they can scribble out with a limited set of colors and send to a friend. The users friends have to guess what they drew. Players can earn points by playing or inviting friends to buy more colors. In the future Facebook may monetise the game to earn revenue. Till now Facebook Messenger only had GIF support and sound effect makers on the Platform. However reports had surfaced last month that Facebook is interested in eventually expanding it to a broader set of experiences including utilities and games if test data looked good. The social networking site will be able to improve user engagement as well as open up alternate sources of revenue with the move. Facebook told Techcrunch, “Currently, we think Messenger Platform is best suited for apps that focus on content creation and curated content. But, one of the reasons we were excited to announce at F8 that Messenger Platform is open to all developers is to see what people build. From there, we’ll think about what else might make sense.”

Facebook has been wooing developers to join its platform and has been adding new features to attract users. Over the last few months Facebook has announced video calling on its Messenger mobile application. The new feature allows users to make video calls to another person with the same application. The company has also started peer to peer payments on the platform. The social networking site revealed earlier this week that the Messenger app has been downloaded 1 billion times from the Google Play Store. The social networking giant has split its Messenger from the main Facebook application for mobile users last year and  created a separate platform with more than 600 million users. The head of the Messenger team David Marcus said in an online post, "Happy to make it to the very exclusive Android 1 billion+ downloads club."
