How to reduce AC bill this summer? Follow these tips
With the sweltering summer, the electricity bill also gets a hit—one of the significant reasons is a nonstop running air conditioner. While ACs become our best friend and biggest saviour from the scorching heat, they also turn into the biggest energy guzzlers. In India, an increase in temperatures often pushes ACs to run nonstop. However, you can prevent your electricity bills from burning a hole in your pocket without compromising your comfort. All you have to do is make a few smart adjustments and practice mindful habits.
From setting the right temperature to using fans along with the AC, these simple yet effective steps will cut down on energy consumption. Want to know? Here are tips to reduce your electricity bill while enjoying a cool home.
Regular AC maintenance to improve efficiency
Whether your AC is new or old, it is essential to get it maintained frequently by professionals. This will not only improve your AC’s efficiency but also make it last longer. Over time, dust and debris accumulate in filters and coils, hindering air flow and thereby consuming more electricity. Also, it is advised to use purified water to clean your AC.
Set the AC temperature at 24 degrees C
Most of users often think that setting the AC at 16 degrees will gets room cooler in no time. However, that’s not true. Setting your AC to 18 degrees C won’t cool your room — it’ll only make your electricity bill soar. According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, 24 degrees C is the sweet spot. Do note that with every degree lower than 24 degrees, energy usage can increase by up to 10%.
Hence, the temperature between 24 and 26 degrees will balance comfort and energy efficiency.
Use fan along with the AC for fast and effective cooling
Using a fan alongside your AC helps circulate the cool air faster, resulting in quick cooling. It also helps your AC cool the room evenly. Fan + AC is the OG power-saving duo.

Curtain up the room to block heat
Sunlight might be great for selfies, but not for your room in summer. You can use blackout curtains to block the optimal amount of the sun. This will prevent your room from heating up and reduce the AC workload as well as your electricity bill. You can also install reflective window films to bounce the heat outside. Also, make sure to close the doors and windows when you switch on the AC.
