The Honor 8 is finally here. Priced at Rs. 29,999, the flagship smartphone has been launched to much fanfare with the Honor 8 Sapphire Blue units completely disappearing off the shelves of online platforms – Flipkart, Amazon and the Honor store – within 48 hours. Specifications
The Honor 8 sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display and is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC, which has reduced power consumption and enhanced real performance compared to its predecessors. The device is also paired with 4GB of RAM and offers 32GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded by up to 128GB. Furthermore, there is a USB Type-C port as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack located at the bottom of the phone.
Build
The phone sports 2.5D curved glass on the front and back, with the rear glinting and shining in patterns. The metal frame that adorns the smartphone gives the Honor 8 a really premium look and feel. This also marks the first time that a Honor smartphone comes in the groovy Sapphire Blue color, which is quite a treat for the eyes. Staying true to the goal of providing the user with a comfortable grip to hold, the edges of the smartphone are chamfered. The 5.2-inch display also helps to ensure that the phone is compact enough to use with one hand, and still large enough to enjoy watching videos on.
Camera
It’s slightly difficult to find a worthy camera in a device that costs under ₹35,000. That’s what the Honor 8 is trying to change in the affordable premium smartphone space. The highlight of the phone is the dual-rear camera setup, which consists of two Sony IMX286 sensors, one monochrome and the other RGB. The monochrome sensor captures finer details of the scene as well. The information from the two sensors is then combined by the processor to stitch together a single image with greater detail. The camera app also has a load of cool features and settings that you can fiddle with to capture some astonishing shots, which includes the bokeh effect. Additionally, it has a 8MP camera in front that would keep the selfie fans happy.
Performance
The Honor 8 is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 950 SoC, featuring four Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.3GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The Cortex-A72 cores are used for performance-intensive tasks like gaming, while the Cortex-A53 cores are used for everyday tasks. The Honor 8 sits on Huawei’s own customized EMUI 4.1 on top of the Android Marshmallow Operating System, packing in a lot of features unavailable on a plain vanilla Android phone. The fingerprint sensor, for instance, can also double up as an app trigger. You can “teach” it to open up the camera, click a photo, light your life up with the torch and so on. Drawing letters on the screen can also trigger actions such as an 'e' to start up a Internet browser like Chrome.
