Digit Zero1 Awards and Digit Best Buy Awards 2022: Best Creator Laptop
HIGHLIGHTS

Here are the winners of the Digit Zero1 and Best Buy Awards for the Best Performing Creator Laptops of 2022

The MSI Creator Z16P bagged the Digit Zero1 Award 2022 in this category amidst fierce competition

The Lenovo Legion S7 clinched the Digit Best Buy Award 2022 for offering the best price-to-performance ratio

Gaming isn't the only thing that needs power. Content creation, such as photo and video editing, 3D rendering, and even streaming requires powerful hardware. While most decently powerful laptops can handle basic editing nowadays, creator laptops exist specifically for handling such tasks. They come with powerful processors and GPUs, often paired with large amounts of RAM, all of which is required for these intensive tasks. This year, our winner and runner up were extremely close, with the winner just barely scraping by. That being said, both have their pros and cons, but when it comes to performance, our Digit Zero1 Award 2022 winner for the Best Performing Creator Laptop is…

Digit Zero1 Award 2022 Winner: MSI Creator Z16P (B12UGST) (Buy Here)

Digit Zero1 Award 2022 Winner: MSI Creator Z16P (B12UGST)

Price: ₹2,57,990

The MSI Z16P comes with just about everything you might need in a laptop, period. As a creator laptop, the Z16P can shred through just about everything you throw at it, from image editing, to video editing, to rendering and more. It comes with one of the best touch screen displays we've tested this year as well, both with high resolution and good colour accuracy. Under the hood, you've got a 12th gen Intel Core i7-12700H powering the laptop (this can go up to an i9 if you want it), which is paired with 32GB of DDR5 RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 3080Ti. You also get 2TB of NVMe SSD storage. Like we mentioned, just about everything you might need from a laptop. Even with all that powerful hardware under the hood, the MSI Z16P is still pretty slim and sports a fairly professional aesthetic, with the only real give away being the RGB keyboard that lights up when you turn the laptop on. Other than that you've also got a pretty decent webcam on the laptop. We really only had two complaints about the MSI Z16P, the first being heat. Understandably, packing all that powerful tech into a slim form factor tends to heat the laptop up pretty quickly. This affects the laptop's overall battery performance as well. However, this is mostly only the case during periods of intense activity. And if there was a drop in performance, we didn't really notice it. The second complaint was a lack of more IO options. While it's certainly good enough to game on comfortably, the Z16P is a creator laptop, and achieves what it sets out to do perfectly, which is provide you with all the performance power you need to create. The MSI Z16P is our Digit Zero1 Awards 2022 Winner for the best performing Creator Laptop.

Runner-up: GIGABYTE AERO 16 (YE5) (Buy Here)

Price: ₹3,20,267

The Gigabyte Aero 16 came extremely close to winning the Creator Laptop segment, but fell slightly short despite packing the more powerful 12th gen Intel Core i9-12900HK. Both the RAM and the GPU on the Aero 16 and MSI Z16P are the same; 32GB of DDR5 RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 3080Ti. While on paper it should have had the Z16P beat, it fell slightly short while benchmarking. Something of trend we noticed this year with laptops in general, with i7 variants beating out i9 variants. That being said, the Gigabyte Aero 16 is still an excellent Creator laptop, like we mentioned it only just fell short of the Z16P, and will shred through all your photo editing, video editing and rendering needs, no problem. The 4K OLED display on the Aero 16 is its most impressive feature and is actually better than the 2.5K display on the MSI Z16P, with even better colour accuracy. It also has a 16:10 ratio, which gives you more screen to work with. However, the Aero 16 suffers from the same issues that plagued the MSI Z16P, namely heat and a lack of IO options. While the Aero 16 features a roomier body, it still generates significant heat, which makes sense considering the powerful i9 and 3080Ti under the hood. The cooling solution works, i.e., the fans, but they get LOUD. Coming to IO, there's no USB-A port; you only have type-C ports and an audio jack. All things considered, the Aero 16 is one of the most powerful laptops we've tested this year, and is our Digit Zero1 Runner-up for best performing Creator Laptop.

Digit Best Buy Award 2022 Winner: Lenovo Legion S7 (16IAH7) (Buy Here)

Digit Best Buy Award 2022 Winner: Lenovo Legion S7 (16IAH7)

Price: ₹1,45,825

While Lenovo's Legion lineup is normally advertised as a gaming lineup, the S series, or Slim series is advertised to those who don't necessarily want a laptop that screams gamer. Additionally, it is targeted at those who might need the specs of a gaming laptop, but not necessarily for gaming. Speaking of hardware under the hood, the Lenovo Legion S7 comes with an Intel Core-i7 12700H and 32GB of DDR5 RAM, which is the same as our winner. However, it comes with a much weaker GPU, with the highest available variant being the NVIDIA RTX 3070. This configuration is still by no means weak. The one place the Legion S7 has both the winner and runner up beat is with its selection of IO ports, including Thunderbolt 4. That's not all, coming to the display, you get a fairly colour accurate 165Hz WQXGA display, which while not as good as the winner and runner up, will definitely suffice. The Legion S7 also suffers with heat issues like the other two laptops we've discussed and has much weaker performance in the battery department. All things considered however, you will still get great performance from this laptop, especially at a price point of ₹1,45,825, which is almost half the price of both the winner and runner up for which reason the Lenovo Legion S7 wins our Digit Best Buy Award 2022.
