Google is turning Android into a creator studio with Android 17, here’s how

As a content creator, you may be spending more time looking at the screen of your phone than experiencing life firsthand. Google understands this, and with the new Android 17 release, it’s making the case that your phone could do most of the work for you to ensure that you enjoy those moments more.

A number of interesting updates are coming to creators with this release. One exciting addition is the Screen Reactions feature that allows users to create videos of themselves reacting to something happening on their screens. You don’t need a green screen or any third-party apps to do this. This includes things like reading comments on a post, reaction videos, or even creating gift guides, all within a couple of clicks. Google says it’ll be available first on Pixel devices in the summer.

Another major change involves Instagram. Google has partnered with Meta to improve its experience on Android smartphones. This will include ultra-HDR photos with richer colours, built-in video stabilisation and Night Sight integration. According to Google, Android flagships will produce photos with the same or better upload quality than the competition in the market using the Universal Video Quality model. That’s a direct shot at iPhone, even if they’re not naming it.

The Edit app is also getting smarter.A new Smart Enhance feature uses on-device AI to upscale photos and videos with a single tap. However, a much more helpful feature is Sound Separation where individual soundtracks could be identified and isolated. This way, wind noise, ambient music, or any other noise can be filtered out individually.

When it comes to professionals, Adobe Premiere is coming to Android and has templates designed for creating YouTube Shorts. Moreover, for users with other Android Flagships like Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and vivo X300 Ultra smartphones, there’s APV (Advanced Professional Video) format. It’s a brand new pro-level format co-created with Samsung and uses hardware acceleration by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.

In conclusion, it seems that Android 17 is going to become the most helpful version for creators so far. However, whether it will attract professional creators from iPhones still remains unknown. In any case, Google seems to be finally done playing catchup and ready to attack first.
