Apple may soon bring paid subscription options for users who want greater access to its AI features. During its quarterly earnings call, CEO Tim Cook indicated that Apple might be considering expanding iCloud+ with new upgrade tiers that will allow customers to purchase higher Apple Intelligence limits.

However, several AI-powered features rely on Apple’s cloud infrastructure instead of on-device processing. Cook suggested that this can change as AI adoption grows. He said Apple is also exploring additional iCloud+ options that would let users “buy up the stack”. This hints that customers who use AI extensively may eventually have the option to pay for increased usage limits.

This comes right ahead of the unveiling of Apple’s next-generation Siri experience with iOS 27. The upgraded assistant is said to support more advanced contextual understanding, perform actions across multiple apps and offer a more conversational experience similar to AI chatbots.
Such capabilities will need substantial cloud computing power, making them more expensive to operate than traditional on-device features. By offering premium AI access through iCloud+, Apple can offset infrastructure costs while keeping a basic level of Apple Intelligence available to all eligible users.
It must be noted that the company has not announced any sort of rollout timelines, price, or how these AI upgrades would be integrated into iCloud+ plans. But the reports suggest that the company is actively evaluating this subscription-based approach. But till then, all readers are advised to take these updates with a pinch of salt.
