Getting a call from your bank offering discounts or rewards may sound normal. But sometimes, it can be a trick. A man in Pune found this out the hard way when he lost Rs 65,000 to a scam pretending to be about credit card reward points. He trusted her and accepted the offer. The woman told him that her colleague would contact him to complete the process. Soon after, a man called him and sent a link on his phone to update the reward points, reports TOI.

The victim clicked the link and entered the necessary details to receive the credit points. Within minutes, Rs 65,000 was taken from his account. When he realised the money was gone, he tried to call the woman and the man again. But both phone numbers were not reachable. That’s when he knew he had been tricked.

How to avoid falling for such scams
- Never share personal or bank details, like OTPs or passwords, with anyone.
- Do not click on unknown links sent by text, email or messaging apps.
- Keep in mind that real bank staff will never ask for sensitive details over a phone call.
- Always call your bank directly using their official customer care number if you are unsure.
