WhatsApp may soon roll out customisable voice message transcription options: How will it work

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will give users more control over how they receive voice message transcriptions. According to WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp’s latest beta version now allows users to choose between automatic and manual transcriptions as per their preference. The feature is currently available on Android version 2.25.4.15.

WhatsApp’s transcribe feature, which provides on-device transcription in multiple languages, offers improved convenience of voice messages by transcribing both incoming and outgoing voice notes. WhatsApp users in countries where English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi are spoken can already access this feature.

However, with the new customisation feature, users will have more flexibility because they will be able to choose from three different methods for receiving voice message transcriptions.

Automatic Transcription: This option will automatically provide transcriptions for every voice message received, offering instant access without any additional steps.

Manual Transcription: In this mode, users can trigger the transcription process only when they choose to, by tapping the “Transcribe” option, offering more control over when transcriptions are generated.

No Transcription: Users can opt out of transcriptions altogether, giving them full control over the feature.

The Meta-owned instant messaging platform has also confirmed that users will be able to change their settings to suit their preferences. The flexibility enables users to change how they interact with the feature, such as switching from automatic to manual transcriptions as needed.

Until now, the transcription had to be activated manually each time the user wanted the voice message to be transcribed. However, the new feature will streamline the process, making it more user-friendly and tailored to individual requirements. Currently in development, the feature is expected to be released with the next WhatsApp update in the coming weeks.
