HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be announced on March 29. The handsets are likely to launch in seven different colour options.

Samsung Galaxy S8, the next flagship from the Korean smartphone maker has received 3C certification in China. The 3C listing also reveals that the Galaxy S8 will carry the model number SM-G9500 in China.

The handset was recently certified by the FCC which confirmed that the handset will launch with the Snapdragon 835 chipset. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ variants certified by FCC come with model numbers SM-G950N and SM-G955N respectively. While Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8+ specifications have been tipped in the past, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed most of the features in a recent note.

According to Kuo, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will feature 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch curved edge Super AMOLED displays respectively. Similar to the LG G6, the smartphones will feature a WQHD+ resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels, translating to an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Kuo says that the Galaxy S8 series will be powered the Snapdragon 835 SoC in US, Korea and China. All other markets are likely to get the Galaxy S8 variants with Exynos 8895 chipset.

Kuo confirms that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will launch with 4GB RAM and 64GB standard storage, but variants in China and Korea will be offered with 6GB RAM. The Galaxy S8 will launch with a single 12MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera. There are no details on whether Samsung is offering improved optics this time around.

Since the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have leaked in the form of renders and working prototypes, Kuo expects Samsung to focus on software instead. The smartphone is expected to launch with an advanced AI assistant named Bixby. The assistant will be similar to Apple's Siri and the Google Assistant in terms of functionality, but will offer deep integration with other apps. The assistant on the S8 is expected to offer visual and text recognition within the camera app.

In line with previous rumours, Kuo says Samsung will announce the Galaxy S8 along with a desktop dock. The desktop dock will reportedly function like Microsoft's Continuum feature and turn the Galaxy S8 into a desktop Android computer. Samsung will announce the Galaxy S8 and S8+ at the company's Unpacked event in New York on March 29. The devices are expected to arrive in seven different colours including Gold, Silver, Bright Back, Matte Back, Blue, Orchid, and Pink.
